Rather than, say, getting a handle on the rampant crime and murder that’s still raging through black communities under her watch, Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot instead took time out of her not-so-busy schedule to film perhaps the most cringeworthy COVID safety ad imaginable.
It’s bad. As in, really, really bad.
The 30-second infomercial, paid for by Chicago taxpayers and apparently filmed on someone’s 5th generation iPhone and edited in 1997 Microsoft paint, starts with a black-and-white shot of Lightfoot asleep on a couch, appearing to have a bad dream.
After a moment, the mayor "wakes up," looks directly into the camera and says in total monotone, “Science is back, baby.”
And it only gets worse from there.
The new administration's COVID-19 task force ushers in a new day for science and evidence-based policy-making. As a city, we look forward to working together to ensure the health of all Chicagoans. pic.twitter.com/b5QNqDuCTe

Only after one shakes off the goosebumps that only come from being utterly embarrassed for another person does the irony set in: that the party that believes babies aren’t people, that women can have penises and that men can give birth think they have a monopoly on following the “science.”
