Chelsea Clinton’s husband, Marc Mezvinsky, may have used Clinton Foundation influence and connections to attract investors to his own personal hedge fund.

That’s according to a new batch of emails released by WikiLeaks, where emails dating back to 2012 show former Clinton staffer Doug Band accusing Mezvinsky of wanting to set up a fundraiser for the Clinton Foundation as an excuse to meet with investors for his hedge fund.

“Marc [M]ez had an idea to put together a poker night for the foundation to raise money,” Band wrote in an email to Clinton campaign chairman John Podesta, Clinton aide Cheryl Mills and Virginia Gov. (and longtime Clinton friend) Terry McAuliffe. Band then claimed that Mezvinsky and Chelsea Clinton (referred to in the email only as "cvc") invited potential hedge fund investors to the Foundation's poker event to try and make connections for Mezvinsky's hedge fund.

“I assume all are contributing to the foundation, which of course isn't the point,” Band goes on to say. “What is the point is that he is doing precisely what he accused me of doing as the entire plan of his has been to use this for his business which he is.”

(Band is referring to how Chelsea Clinton has accused Band in the past of using his ties to the Clintons and their foundation to enrich himself.)

Other leaked emails show Chelsea expressing a desire to change conflict-of-interest rules to help “professionalize” the Foundation. Band responded to this by calling the Clinton daughter a “spoiled brat” in leaked emails, accusing her of simply “causing issues” because she “hasn’t found her way and has a lack of focus in her life.”

Although it’s unknown if Mezvinsky ever did set up meetings with investors at these fundraisers, the Clinton Foundation has held several charity poker tournaments that were attended by wealthy donors and celebrities, some of which Mezvinsky did attend.

Throughout the election cycle, Republican nominee Donald Trump has repeatedly gone after the Clinton Foundation, calling it a “criminal enterprise” that the Clinton’s use to enrich themselves. Questions have also been raised concerning a possible “pay to play” interaction between the Clinton Foundation and Hillary Clinton when she was Secretary of State.
