Many have grown fond of -- or at least amused by -- Charles Barkley’s animated and hilarious presence as an NBA analyst on TNT. But there are talks of him switching networks in the near future.

CNN CEO Chris Licht has reportedly considered adding Barkley to the lineup of on-air talent and would in theory be paired with Gayle King

The talks are incredibly loose and are a long way from being materialized, especially considering that last year Barkley signed a 10-year contract with Warner Brothers Discovery, the parent company of TNT. However, his contract could be affected if TNT does not renew its NBA deal after the 2025 season, and the transition to a hypothetical job with CNN could be easy because Warner also owns CNN.

Barkley said he doesn’t want to do a daily show, and is largely considering a job simply out of his admiration for King.

“I just want to help the company because, obviously it is a shit show right now. Anything I can do to help,” Barkley said. “We don’t have anything set in stone. I’m only considering it because of my respect for Gayle.”

Well he’s right about CNN being a dumpster fire and it has been for quite some time.

While his heart is in the right place, there’s nothing he can do to save the company. The only way to save it might be shutting it down and starting something different. For his own sanity, its best to stay with him for TNT.

On the other hand, how awesome would it be to hear the Round Mound of Rebound update James Earl Jones's "THIS is CNN" tag?
