In his remarks at Liberty University Wednesday, Republican presidential candidate and famed neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson took a lighthearted swipe at those who mock him for believing that God created the universe, claiming that to believe the earth evolved apart from divine intervention “requires a lot more faith than what I believe.”

Carson, an outspoken Seventh-Day Adventist, has come under fire for some of his religious convictions, including his view that God created the entire world in six literal days. Some media outlets have simply reported Carson’s Biblical-literalist stance as if it’s the make-or-break lynchpin in his entire campaign, while others have blatantly mocked his position on the origin of the world.

An article published last week in Yahoo! News listed Carson’s creationist statements as one of several “questionable moves” by the presidential hopeful. One September article in the uber left-leaning Mother Jones suggested Carson’s belief in creationism might somehow cause him to view those who disagree as “useful idiots of the devil.”

Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with Carson’s religious opinions, he doesn’t appear to mind.
