"I want what you want; a 21,646-square meter mosaic of Nicolas Cage," writes Thom Malone on his Kickstarter campaign where he hopes to raise the necessary funds to make this become a reality.
Mr. Malone, a 25-year-old graphic designer from Windsor Ontario, needs to raise $52,000 over the next month for his town to host the largest photo mosaic in the world that will combine 180,000 unique photos. The end of the video on the campaign page ends with, "Please pledge so you can have your face on Nicolas Cage's face."
The current world record photo mosaic hosts 176,000 photos made by none other than a glassware company, Transitions Optical but Mr. Malone says, “I think we all can agree that Nicolas Cage deserves to hold that record."
Money raised to the campaign will be used to print the pictures from the 180,000 submissions, pay for a location to lay out the mosaic, and send gifts to backers who give certain amounts. Malone said he wants his town to be known for something other, “than the crappy things it's known for.”
Nicolas Cage is one of the largest internet celebrities of the day. His numerous roles and characters cross generational have crossed generational lines over his career. Mr. Cage's acting versatiltiy on one end of the spectrum has been deemed overly-dramatic but on the other end has been collective and high-caliber and successful. This probably intrigues people, both out of jest and out of respect.
"I've always been enamoured by Nicolas Cage. I'm always coming to his defence," Malone told CBC News on Wednesday. "Everybody says he's a bad actor, but I think he's in on the joke. He's acting over the top on purpose … He's in on the joke of Nicolas Cage. And he really can act when he wants to. He's had some great performances," reports CBC News.
Malone has reserved a special $8,000 dollar donation spot for Nic Cage only, and hopes he can make it to the unveiling around Labor Day if all goes to plane, where he will take the time to discuss the possibility of appearing in his favorite celebrities next movie.
