A California man is now looking at a murder charge after he allegedly forced his girlfriend to take miscarriage-inducing pills, resulting in the death of her unborn baby.
Despite the fact that elective abortion is legal in California, 23-year-old Jagmeet Sandhu has been arrested and charged with multiple felonies after the Bakersfield Police Department said he held a gun to his pregnant girlfriend’s head and forced her to take the pills to trigger a miscarriage. The woman told officers she had indeed had a miscarriage as a result, a story which police say they were able to corroborate with evidence found during their investigation.
Sandhu has now been slapped with six felony charges, including first-degree murder, first-degree burglary, assault with a firearm, and inflicting injury on a spouse or cohabitant. He is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning, NBC News reports.
Ironically, the same state that is now charging Sandhu with first-degree murder in the horrific death of his unborn child also allows women to voluntarily abort their own children through the second trimester, with exceptions allowing for third-trimester abortions if the woman’s life or “health” is subjectively determined to be in danger.
It’s interesting, then, that California would charge Sandhu with murdering an otherwise disposable fetus. It’s almost as if they understand that a person’s life was taken.
