BuzzFeed: Ban Men for Giving Their Opinions

According to BuzzFeed, all men should be banned.

A “quiz” posted by BuzzFeed UK staff writer Natalya Lobanova asks readers to pick, “Which Man Should Be Banned?” out of nine different men. Hint: according to Lobanova, every man “belongs in the bin.”

Lobanova claims men should be banned for making light-hearted jokes, being polite, giving their opinions, and an assortment of other innocuous reasons:

  • Jim likes to make offensive jokes, and if anyone gets upset about it he tells them that they’re “over-sensitive” and ought to “lighten up”.
  • Bernard thinks his advice and opinion is always valuable, even when literally no one asked for it.
  • Harry says all his ex-girlfriends are “crazy” after their relationships end for legitimate reasons.
  • Stephen refers to all female co-workers as “darling”, even if they’re as, if not more senior than he is.
  • Cecil thinks the gender pay gap is caused by women opting to study “feminist interpretive dance” rather than practical degrees in engineering, despite the gender pay gap existing within identical jobs in the same sectors.
  • Barry likes to make advances on random women, but gets very offended if they then reject those advances, and tells them they’re “not that hot anyway”.
  • Andrew loves sharing topless pictures of himself at the gym, but believes women that posts pictures of their bodies online “need to get some self-respect”.
  • Kevin thinks that domestic duties are the primary concern of women and refuses to do anything that he considers to be “womens’ work”.
  • Toby loves explaining things to women in great detail, especially if the woman hasn’t actually asked him to, and has a far greater understanding of the subject than he does.

Other examples of Lobanova’s writing include “How Much of a T**t Are You?”19 Tumblr Posts That Will Definitely Destroy Capitalism,” “21 Dogs With Opinions on Brexit,” “This Poop Test Will Reveal An Aspect of Your Personality,” “Do You Actually Know What You’re Like?” “Are You Self-Obsessed?” and “How Trash Are You?

This isn’t the first time BuzzFeed staff has denigrated all men. In 2014, two (male) BuzzFeed posted a similar article titled, “33 Reasons Why Men Should Be Banned.” In their summary of the post, BuzzFeed Editorial Director Jack Shepherd and BuzzFeed Deputy Editorial Director Tanner Greenring clarified for their readers, “Yes," they mean "all men.”

BuzzFeed Canada also recently came under fire for its white males need not apply pitching policy. While responding to the policy's backlash, BuzzFeed Canada senior writer Scaachi Koul wrote that men should be banned and that people should “LITERALLY THROW THEM ALL IN THE GARBAGE.”
