The University of Wyoming’s girls’ volleyball team has forfeited an upcoming game rather than be forced to play against a biological boy on the other team, making them the third team to do so in recent weeks.

“After a lengthy discussion, the University of Wyoming will not play its scheduled conference match against San José State University in the UniWyo Sports Complex on Saturday, Oct. 5,” the Wyoming team announced Tuesday afternoon in a statement. “Per Mountain West Conference policy, the Conference will record the match as a forfeit and a loss for Wyoming. The Cowgirls will host Fresno State on Thursday, Oct. 3 at 6:30 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex.”

The team’s decision comes after San Jose State put a transgender player - a male who believes he’s a woman - on their starting lineup. Both Boise State & Southern Utah have also refused to play against the team, forfeiting their games and accepting a loss on their records in protest of the unfairness and out of concern for the safety of their players. Meanwhile, San Jose State, led by male player Blaire (formerly Brayden) Fleming, has yet to lose a match this season, with a 10-0 record after counting the Boise State's forfeit.

By the by, Fleming? He can do this.

San Jose State called the University of Wyoming's forfeit "disappointing."

"It is disappointing that our SJSU student athletes, who are in full compliance with NCAA and Mountain West rules and regulations, are being denied opportunities to compete," the school told OutKick in an email, adding, "We are committed to supporting our student-athletes through these challenges and in their ability to compete in an inclusive, fair, safe and respectful environment."

Wyoming Republican Governor Mark Gordon posted a statement on X saying he supports the team’s choice to forfeit.

“I am in full support of the decision by @wyoathletics to forego playing its volleyball match against San Jose State. It is important we stand for integrity and fairness in female athletics,” he wrote.
