There is no real good here. But there is a lesson: play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

And every now and then, you win a fatal one.

A store clerk was captured on surveillance video shooting two armed men who tried to rob his store. One of the would-be thieves, a 16-year-old boy, didn’t make it out alive.

Police say Cecil Batiz died from his injuries after being shot by the clerk at Sam’s Meat Market in New Orleans just before 8 p.m. Tuesday. Batiz and 18-year-old Teony Juarez, both armed with guns of their own, had tried to rob the store.

Moments before the shooting, Batiz can be seen on the store’s surveillance camera brandishing a firearm as the cashier opens the drawer and hands over the money. While the robbers were distracted stealing other items from the store’s shelves, the clerk grabbed his own gun and fired, killing Batiz and wounding Juarez.

Juarez has been treated for his injuries and booked at the Orleans Parish Prison on felony charges of armed robbery, illegal use of a firearm and aggravated assault with a firearm. As of Thursday, no charges had been filed against the clerk.
