The eight public schools under the University of Maine System (UMS) is finally complying with President Donald Trump’s executive order to keep boys out of girls’ sports after the president made good on his promise to pull federal funding from colleges and universities that don’t cooperate, marking the latest win for sanity following four years of the Biden administration attempting to erase the reality of biological gender from public education and athletics.
According to this, the U.S. Department of Agriculture announced this week that UMS was not in full compliance with the order after the department temporarily paused USDA funding over the university system’s continued inclusion of gender-confused males in women’s sports. To put it into perspective, the USDA had awarded $29.78 million in research funding to UMS in 2024 alone.
"After the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) initiated a Title IX compliance review regarding federal funding, the University of Maine System (UMaine) has clearly communicated its compliance with Title IX’s requirement to protect equal opportunities for women and girls to compete in safe and fair sports, as articulated in President Donald J. Trump’s Executive Order," the USDA said in its announcement, adding that “Any false claim by the UMaine can, and will, result in onerous and even potentially criminal financial liability."

UMS Chancellor Dannel Malloy confirmed the university system’s compliance in a follow-up statement, saying, "The University of Maine System has always maintained its compliance with state and federal laws and with NCAA rules, which the U.S. Department of Agriculture also affirmed in a press release today,” and adding he is “relieved” to have come to an agreement with the federal government.
Trump had previously sparred with Maine Governor Janet Mills during a meeting with state governors at the White House back in February over her refusal to comply with the executive order. At the time, Mills, a Democrat, had arrogantly vowed to challenge Trump in court over his threat to withhold funding from schools that allow boys to compete in girls’ sports.
"You better do it... because you're not going to get any federal funding at all if you don't."
