So a whopping $230 million and four measly months later, the U.S. military is officially nixing its efforts to build a temporary pier in Gaza to provide “humanitarian aid” to the Hamas-controlled territory whose leadership launched an attack on Israel last October 7 that left more than 1,200 Israelis dead and hundreds more tortured, maimed, raped, and kidnapped.

Biden first announced the effort back in March, which involved constructing a floating pier that took nearly 1,000 U.S. military members to install and which never really got off the ground - no pun intended - thanks to weather challenges and other obstacles. The pier had to be removed and even relocated several times due to rough seas.

The pier was also the subject of criticism by congressional Republicans, who pointed out that even if the entire project hadn’t been an expensive logistical nightmare from the start, there was no way to ensure U.S.-backed supplies would actually go to the people of Gaza rather than be used by Hamas terrorists.

In fact, the pier itself - which, did I mention, cost $230 MILLION U.S. tax dollars? - was only operational for about 20 days.

Following the announcement that the military would be dismantling the pier, Sen. Roger Wicker of Mississippi called the whole thing a "national embarrassment," pointing out that it took twice as long to build the pier than the structure was actually used.

For Biden’ part, the president said during a press conference last week that he “was hopeful that would be more successful.”

Probably like the rest of his presidency.
