A Las Vegas area Jewish student with autism was found with a swastika etched into his back. Now, the school has come under fire for failing to get to the bottom of it.

According to this, the 17-year-old Jewish teen, who at the time was a non-verbal special needs student at Clark County School District, came home on March 9 only for his mother to find a swastika cut into the skin of her son’s back. Because of his disability, the boy couldn't articulate what had happened.

As expected, his mother reported the situation to the school and demanded they explain how something like this could have happened. She then pulled her son from the school over fear for his safety.

At the time, the Clark County School District said their investigation into the incident, which included interviewing school staff and looking through their security footage, "found no evidence that would indicate the origin of the injuries.” The FBI and local law enforcement agencies also looked into the incident, but so far, no one has ever been held accountable for the crime.

Now, the Lawfare Project, a group which provides legal support to Jewish people, has filed a formal complaint against the school district accusing them of violating the state and federal civil rights of the student, saying the school did not conduct a thorough investigation.

"There is an appalling pattern of discriminatory conduct within the CCSD that cannot be tolerated any longer," wrote Lawfare Project attorney Hillary Freeman, according to ABC13. "It is time for CCSD to step up and ensure that all students are safe and receiving equal access to their education."

"This horrific act against a defenseless Jewish student is a stark reminder of the deeply rooted issue of antisemitism that persists in our society," the group added. "Furthermore, the failure of the Clark County School District to conduct a proper investigation into this incident is evidence of the systemic apathy that exists towards Jews who are targeted by hate-crimes."
