A fifth student has been arrested in connection with an assault on an 18-year-old high school student that sent the victim to the hospital with serious injuries, including a skull fracture.

The attack, which was videotaped, took place on December 12 outside Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Florida - yes, that Marjory Stoneman Douglas - and shows multiple students beating a young white man in what can only be described as complete chaos. At one point, the victim is thrown to the pavement directly on his head, knocking him out cold as a pool of blood spreads under his face. People in the crowd can be heard screaming to check if the kid is breathing as at least two bystanders start checking to see if he’s even alive.

Warning: the video is graphic and extremely disturbing.

Thankfully, the young man survived, landing in the hospital with what police said were serious but not “life-threatening” injuries.

Jahmeer Beauziel, 17, turned himself into police Monday after a warrant was issued for his arrest. He’s been charged with felony battery. Four others had already been arrested last week, including Caleb Hensley, 17; Sylvester Hicks Jr., 16; Chinua Leefatt, 15; and Jordan Thompson, 16. Police say they’re still looking for a sixth suspect. All those who’ve been arrested are Black - a detail that shouldn’t matter, but you know sure as heck would if the roles had been reversed.

Mugs

Authorities have yet to say what started the fight, except to say that it stemmed from an argument that occurred in the school earlier in the day.

The incident comes just five years after former student Nikolas Cruz stormed into Marjory Stoneman Douglas with a rifle and began shooting, leaving 14 students and three teachers dead.
