Deck the halls with…lots of ‘splosives?

That’s how one ill-fated guy decided to ring in the holidays. Shocking video out of DC-area Arlington County, Virginia, shows the moment a criminal suspect blew up an entire house - not part of the house, not the front porch, the entire thing - as police were attempting to take him into custody. And the footage is just as shocking as you’d expect.

Police had arrived at the 800 block of North Burlington Street at around 4:45 p.m. Monday to execute a search warrant in connection with reports that the man was firing a flare gun from within the house. After a several-hours-long standoff, what sounded like gunfire erupted from the house. Seconds later, the entire structure blew up.

Reports state multiple officers were hurt, none seriously.

Police said that prior to the explosion, which occurred just before 8:30 p.m. they’d tried to make contact with the suspect but he refused to come out.

"During the early parts of it, after we had obtained a search warrant, we were attempting to make contact with the individual. Our SWAT team was on scene at that point, we would determine that the incident would be a barricade because the suspect had not exited the residence," a police spokeswoman said, adding, "We were attempting to make contact with the individual when shots were discharged inside the residence.”

The person reportedly fired 30 to 40 flares before the house exploded, the exact cause of which is still under investigation. Only the suspect is believed to have been in the house at the time. Suffice it to say, he won’t be celebrating Christmas this year.

Fa la la la boom.
