If you want to show up to the Boston mayor’s holiday party, you’ll need to check your melanin level first - and white people need not arrive.

In a blatantly racist move that should disqualify anyone from holding office in the United States, Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, a Democrat and the city's first Asian-American mayor, sent an invitation to the entire city council inviting them to an “Electeds of Color Holiday Party” for everyone...except white folks.

The problem? Half the city council is white. Yep - seven of the 11 city council members aren’t people of “color,” and are therefore excluded from the race-based shindig.

A few minutes after the email invite was sent out, Wu's office quickly sent another missive apologizing - but not for actually throwing a non-whites event. Instead, her staff simply pointed out that the email shouldn’t have gone out to everyone in the first place, and should only have been sent to non-white council members.

“I wanted to apologize for my previous email regarding a Holiday Party for tomorrow," Wu’s aide, Denise DosSantos, wrote in the email on Wu’s behalf. "I did send that to everyone by accident and I apologize if my email may have offended or came across as so. Sorry for any confusion this may have caused.”

At this point, I don't think anyone's confused about the level of racism in the Boston mayor's office. Seems pretty cut and dry to me.

Of course, not everyone was offended by an elected official hosting a party excluding people based on the color of their skin. Black City Councilor Brian Worrell said in a statement that there’s nothing wrong with hosting tax-funded events that omit white people.

"We make space and spaces for all kinds of specific groups in the city and city government. This is no different, and the Elected Officials of Color has been around for more than a decade," Worrell said in a statement.

But won’t worry, white people - you’re still invited to a few things. Wu will also be hosting a holiday party for all cabinet members, city councilors, and legislators next week.

Someone should throw together a quick Christmas bash for Whites only, just to see how that’d go over. My guess? Like a lead balloon.
