Who knew getting bread for your family involved hauling a trash bag into a drug store and making off with armloads of stolen deodorant?

And yet, that’s what video caught a few hard-up Californians doing as they robbed a San Leandro Lucky store, obviously for food to feed their starving children. Or for reparations. Or something.

The clip shows at least four thieves in masks and hoods cramming empty garbage bags full of merchandise including toothpaste and shampoo (after all, it's hard to reach that $950 felony larceny limit on $5 body wash) while bystanders casually record the robbery. The scene is such a common occurrence in California that other customers seem actually amused by it, at one point even mocking the lone shoplifter who apparently didn’t think to bring an empty bag with him.

Ah, California. Come for the sunshine, stay for the murder and theft.
