UPDATE: Manhunt Underway for New Suspect in Berlin Christmas Market Attack

UPDATE (Wed., 12:06 PM EST): A new suspect is being sought in the Berlin Christmas market truck attack, the German interior minister confirmed.

German authorities are searching for Anis Amri, a 23-year-old Tunisian man who was reportedly under surveillance for months.

Police are offering a reward of €100,000 ($104,300) for information leading to his arrest. 

Twelve people were killed during the Monday night rampage, 48 injured. 

UPDATE (Tues., 3:14 PM EST): The suspect apprehended by local authorities has been released. 

The manhunt continues, as police were unable to prove the Pakistani man brought into custody was behind the wheel.

CNN reports that ISIS claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement on Tuesday, calling him "a soldier of the Islamic State." 

The investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE (4:16 PM EST): Fox News reports that there were two people in the truck that drove through the crowded Christmas market in west Berlin. 

The truck driver has been arrested by local police. The passenger was shot and killed in an attempt to flee the scene. 

UPDATE (4:07 PM EST): The truck crash is now being investigated as a terrorist attack, a German intelligence official tells CNN. 

A suspect has been apprehended by German police. 

UPDATE (3:19 PM EST): Local media report at least 9 people killed and 50 injured, according to Fox News.

ORIGINAL STORY: A truck plowed through a busy Christmas market in Berlin, Germany, Monday evening, CNN reports.

A police spokesman has described the incident as “severe.”

Daily Mail reports that multiple people have been injured and at least one person was killed at the site of the Christmas market on Breitscheidplatz Square.

Shoppers are said to be trapped beneath the truck.

The police have not confirmed whether it was an accident or an act of terrorism.
