BREAKING: Missouri Rejects Its Last Abortion Clinic’s License

The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services officially declined to renew the operating license of Planned Parenthood of St. Louis on Friday, meeting a court-set deadline and potentially shutting down the state's last operating abortion clinic.

The clinic will remain open – at least for the next short while – thanks to a temporary court injunction until a judge can determine whether the decision can stand. A hearing on the topic began Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Louis City Circuit Court, according to the Kansas City Star.

The news comes after the abortion facility openly declared this week that it would not comply with state regulations mandating a secondary pelvic exam for women seeking abortions, calling saying the rule wasn’t “medically relevant.”

The state had originally opened up an investigation into whether or not to renew Planned Parenthood of St. Louis’ license after finding the clinic had repeatedly violated multiple state health codes, including the repeated use of expired medications and IV fluids, using supplies that were at least 6 years old, using single-dose injectable medications for more than one patient and improperly storing medications, and even performing a second-trimester abortion past the state’s 20-week cut-off.

Of course, Planned Parenthood wasn’t too happy about the news, tweeting:
