In an appearance on “The O’Reilly Factor” Thursday night, National Border Patrol Council president Brandon Judd praised President-elect Donald Trump as “a president we can trust.”

He told Fox News host Bill O’Reilly that, as Washington prepares for a transition of power, there’s “a buzz that we’ve never seen before in the Border Patrol."

"We feel we now have a president that we can trust and that has the political will to finally secure the border," Judd said. "We expect to see an awful lot of policies that have undermined border security changed in the near future."

He explained that under the Obama administration, the Border Patrol has been implementing an ineffective “catch and release” policy with illegal immigrants.

"The message that we have sent is that if you come here and you break our laws, we're going to let you go, and you're going to be able to stay in the United States," he said.

“When we stop enforcing the laws, that word spreads.”

Judd told O’Reilly that he believes Trump will put an end to that practice.

As to Trump’s plans to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, Judd said that securing the border is “extremely important.”

"We want to dictate where they cross," he said. "And with border walls, we're able to dictate where they cross, and it allows us to be as successful as possible."

"I do believe he will build the wall," he added. "And under this administration, I believe that we will secure the border."

Judd noted that building walls in strategic locations along the U.S.-southern border will allow Border Patrol to target where illegal immigration and the transportation of illegal contraband take place.

He said that the Border Patrol is currently in the process of mapping those locations.

Incoming White House press secretary Sean Spicer said in his first press briefing on Thursday that Americans can expect one of Trump’s first actions as president to involve immigration or securing the border.
