Border Apprehensions Top 170k For Third Straight Month

More than 170,000 illegal aliens were apprehended crossing the Southwest U.S. border during the month of May, according to pre-published information reportedly obtained by Axios.

If accurate, that means May saw no slowing of the deluge of illegal border crossings that’s steadily ramped up since the inauguration of President Joe Biden in January. More than 173,000 illegal aliens were apprehended in March, while more than 178,000 were caught in April.

It also means nearly 1 million illegal aliens have already been caught streaming into the country since the start of the fiscal year on Oct. 1 – with a full four months left to go. Border officials also estimate that anywhere between 1,000 and 2,000 more are crossing unpursued every day as border agents are left dealing with the influx of families and children.

On top of tens of thousands of migrants from Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador, Axios reports that “In addition, there continue to be significant numbers of migrants from more distant nations such as Ecuador, Venezuela, Cuba and Haiti, the data show.” Nearly 20,000 have been from Brazil.

The disturbing, yet entirely unsurprising, report comes as Vice President Kamala Harris, who has yet to visit the Southwest U.S. border or any of the administration’s detention centers herself, wraps up a trip to Guatemala where she touted the Biden administration’s supposed efforts to get illegal immigration and human smuggling under control by targeting the “root causes” of the problem. In remarks that are already being maligned by open-borders progressives, Harris claimed that she “believe[s]” illegal aliens who cross the border unlawfully “will be turned back,” telling would-be migrants, “Do not come.”

Far-left Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez slammed the vice president’s comments as “disappointing,” saying that “seeking asylum at any US border is a 100% legal method of arrival” – without, of course, offering any clue as to how the United States can continue to pay for the never-ending surge of illegal aliens showing up at the border every single month with no sign of slowing down.

The Biden administration is already reportedly spending about $60 million U.S. tax dollars per week housing illegal alien children at more than a dozen temporary detention centers set up across the country.
