Apparently Dylan Mulvaney can receive a Bud Light partnership for pretending to be a woman, but female celebrity Billie Eilish can’t wear a dress.

Eilish entered the Met Gala in a black floral cocktail dress, complete with matching hairpins. But instead of praising her elegance, many in her fanbase criticized her decision to dress like a woman.

Over the weekend, Eilish responded to these critics in a four-part Instagram story. “I spent the first five years of my career getting absolutely obliterated by you fools for being boyish and dressing how I did and constantly being told I’d be hotter if I acted like a woman,” said Eilish. “Now, when I feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, I changed and am a sellout….Let women exist!”

This incident follows Eilish’s 2019 explanation of her former style, which involved baggy, tomboy-like clothes.

“I never want the world to know everything about me,” said Eilish. “I mean, that’s why I wear big, baggy clothes. Nobody can have an opinion because they haven’t seen what’s underneath, you know?”

Whatever your opinion is on Eilish’s music, no woman should have to choose between privacy on the Internet and embracing innocent femininity – especially in an age in which biological men assert that womanhood is a costume. Indeed, women must exist.
