President Joe Biden this week boasted about having overseen the “most robust recovery” in recent U.S. economic history, even as food prices are still rising, parents are hunting the shelves for practically non-existent baby formula, and gas prices continue to climb to historic highs – even approaching $10 a gallon in one California town.

“At the time I took office about 16 months ago, the economy had stalled and COVID was out of control,” President Biden’s Twitter account posted Monday, referring to a time when American businesses had been shuttered or barely hanging on for months thanks to government-imposed COVID mandates.

“Today, thanks to the economic plan and the vaccination plan that my Administration put into action, America has achieved the most robust recovery in modern history,” Biden rambled on.

Meanwhile, gas prices soared to a new national average high of $4.92 a gallon, with one gas station in California sporting a nearly $10 price tag.

Explains MRCTV’s Nick Kangadis:

According to AAA, the national average price for a gallon of regular gas now sits at $4.919. For context, that is over five cents higher than it was on Monday ($4.865/gal.), nearly 30 cents higher than it was a week ago ($4.622/gal.), nearly 62 cents higher than a month ago ($4.301/gal.) and is just about 14 cents shy of being two dollars more than it was a year ago ($3.053/gal.).

Meanwhile, the price of food has risen more than 10 percent, with grocery prices up over 8 percent. The price of avocados has nearly doubled, while the price of eggs is expected to rise about 20 percent this year. The price of meat has risen between 15 and 20 percent, with Yahoo News reporting some shoppers are trying to bribe the butchers at their local grocery store with homemade baked goods in exchange for discounted prices (no, seriously).

I’m not sure what definition of “robust” Biden’s working from - but as an English major, I’m pretty sure this isn’t it.
