During a campaign fundraising call with top donors this week, recently announced 2020 presidential candidate Joe Biden said he was jumping into the already-crowded Democratic ring to vie for the highest office in the land, in part because he says people are begging him to “save the world.”

“I get calls from people all over the world — world leaders are calling me — and they’re almost begging me to do this, to save the country, save the world,” Biden said during the phone call, per Politico.

Politico also reports Biden called his candidacy for president “a calling, a duty” in an effort to “stop Donald Trump.”

World leaders’ opinions aside, many have speculated that Biden, who served as President Barack Obama’s VP for eight years, has an uphill road to climb if he wants to beat out some of the left’s far more progressive contenders. Already up against 19 other candidates (and its only April of 2019), Biden’s been widely criticized for getting a little too handsy with women – and young girls – who aren’t his wife, as well as for being a considerably more moderate Democrat when compared with far-left socialists like Vermont senator and 2020 candidate Bernie Sanders.

He's also drawn disapproval for being an older white male and a career politician, a combination that doesn’t always jive with many of the left’s more social justice-obsessed voters.
