He’s been given everything he has, but nothing can compare to his latest gift.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was loaned one of actor/activist Sean Penn’s Oscar trophies as a sign of solidarity with between the Penn and Zelensky.

“This is for you,” Penn told Zelensky. “It’s just a symbolic silly thing, but if I know this is here with you then I’ll feel better and stronger for the fight.”

How pretentious can you be? I understand that Zelensky is literally an actor, so a gesture like the one Penn offered might mean something. But unless that trophy can shoot and kill an enemy on the battlefield of war, what the heck is the point?

“Sean brought his Oscar statuette as a symbol of faith in the victory of our country,” Zelensky wrote in a post, according to the New York Post. “It will be in Ukraine until the end of the war.”

Look, to be perfectly honest, Penn could give Zelensky all his Oscars. As long as it’s not another giant transfer of U.S. taxpayer wealth to the a leader that’s always begging for more with little appreciation for he’s already been given, they can make all the superficial gestures they want.
