Former California Senator Kevin Murray is spearheading a new multimillion-dollar project for the city of Los Angeles – the construction of three state-of-the-art residential complexes for the homeless on Skid Row.
This groundbreaking $165 million tower, complete with a gym, art studio, cafe and numerous more amenities, is fully taxpayer-funded.Â
“The fancy new building is 19 stories high and has 278 units, each costing about $600,000,” as reported by the Daily Wire. “The total cost was $165 million, according to the Los Angeles Times. It is the first of three new high-rise buildings that will soon house homeless people.” Â
Deputy Mayor Mercedes Marquez said that the design is “stunning,” adding, “We're talking about world-class architecture."

Skid Row, notorious for its impoverishment, hosts countless homeless individuals, pervasive drug addiction, and rampant crime. This new complex is intended to serve as a solution and alleviate the suffering of, at least, hundreds living on the streets.
However, the project has faced much criticism for several reasons. First, concentrating extreme poverty often yields negative outcomes and it fails to address the root problem of homelessness and poverty. Moreover, it’s at an enormous cost to the taxpayers to pay for these buildings and the constant upkeep they will require.
