A Mississippi high school band has been barred from an annual state competition after a controversial halftime show performance.

Forest Hill High School’s performance depicted students dressed as doctors and nurses pointing toy guns at students dressed as police officers.  The show was attempting to depict a scene from the 2002 movie “John Q.”

The event took place just days after two Mississippi police officers were killed in the line of duty.  Zach Moak, and James White were shot by Marquis Aaron Flowers, after responding to a shots fired call in Brookhaven on Sept. 29.

“This type of performance is inexcusable under any and all circumstances, especially within the school system, but also in light of our fallen heroes on September 29th who served the Brookhaven Police Department with great honor, ” Mayor Joe Cox wrote in a statement issued on Facebook.

According to Fox News,

“The state's High School Activities Association reportedly notified the Jackson School District last week of the sanctions against Forest Hill High School. The sanctions also include prohibiting band members from wearing uniforms and marching at football games for the rest of this season.”
