Note to all future or aspiring presidents: don’t disparage the military – especially to make yourself look good.

Perhaps I should have sent out that little PSA yesterday, before Joe Biden made a fool of himself once again by calling a graduating Coast Guard class “dull” when they failed to applaud during his commencement speech Wednesday at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut.

“I an only assume that you will enjoy educating your family about how the Coast Guard is ‘The hard nucleus around…the Navy forms in times of war,” Biden awkwardly began.

When that failed to garner the standing ovation he was apparently expecting, the president then continued, “Why, you’re a really dull class!”

“I mean, c’mon man, is the sun getting to you? I would think you’d have an opportunity when I say that about the Navy to clap but being here together…” he trailed off, as the audience finally began to applaud.

Of course, this is also the president who, in a video that surfaced last year during his presidential campaign, was seen demanding that a group of soldiers “clap, you stupid bastards” when they didn’t applaud a one-liner he’d delivered about his wife, Jill, adding that the assembly of service members “must be slow” and labeling them “a dull bunch."
