U.S. Attorney David J. Freed announced that the Luzerne County Bureau of Elections has turned up discarded ballots that were cast for President Donald Trump.
“Since Monday, FBI personnel working together with the Pennsylvania State Police have conducted numerous interviews and recovered and reviewed certain physical evidence. Election officials in Luzerne County have been cooperative,” Freed said in press release Thursday. “At this point we can confirm that a small number of military ballots were discarded. Investigators have recovered nine ballots at this time. Some of those ballots can be attributed to specific voters and some cannot. All nine ballots were cast for presidential candidate Donald Trump."
The Citizens’ Voice newspaper reports Luzerne County District Attorney Stefanie Salavantis began investigating the issue with mail-in ballots and believes the issue will not impact election results.
"We are confident that it will be successfully resolved so it will not have an impact on the integrity of the election process," Salavantis said earlier this week.
The Pennsylvania “discarded” mail-in ballot issue follows what is becoming a long line of incidents involving mail-in ballots, including the recent discovery of ballots found dumped on the side of a rural country road in Wisconsin.
