The latest nominee for a Darwin Award killed her boyfriend while trying to pursue YouTube fame.

Aspiring YouTube star Monalisa Perez, a 19-year-old pregnant mother of two, shot her boyfriend, 22-year-old Pedro Ruiz III, in the chest with a gold Desert Eagle .50 caliber handgun as part of a prank gone wrong.

NBC News reports Perez shot her boyfriend in the chest after the two set up GoPro cameras to film what was supposed to be footage of a hardcover encyclopedia stopping a bullet. According to a tweet posted before the incident, Ruiz allegedly came up with the idea to shoot “one of the most dangerous videos ever”:

Ruiz had reportedly been practicing shooting books to find one that a bullet could not penetrate.

Perez was changed with second-degree manslaughter. She faces 10 years in jail and/or a fine of $20,000.

It’s not the first time the two had attempted to do “scary stunts.” One video on their YouTube page is explicitly titled, “DOING SCARY STUNTS AT THE FAIR | PART 1.”

In the video, Perez can be heard telling Ruiz, “Imagine when we have 300,000 subscribers. They’ll be like, ‘Oh my god, hi!”

Ruiz responded, “I told them the bigger we get, I’ll be throwing parties. ‘Cause it’s a small town, I mean, why not?”

According to WDAY, the couple’s family asked them not to use a gun during their pranks, but they insisted they “wanted to go viral.”
