Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D- N.Y.) introduced a bill Tuesday that would look at the racial, ethnic, and gender makeup of political appointees, along with several other identity-based factors.
In efforts to promote diversity, the Political Appointments Inclusion and Diversity (PAID) Act would make it so the Office of Personnel Management would publish a summary of the makeup of the identity groups.
According to Fox News, the summary would include self-reported yet anonymous data on “race, gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, tribal affiliation, disability, veteran status and age.”
Ocasio-Cortez shared the goal of the legislation that will “publicly report on the demographics of political appointees.”
“This data will help ensure that our policymakers are representative of our country,” she tweeted.

To meet the needs of the American people, our appointees need to reflect America.
This proposal comes days after President Joe Biden signed an executive order last week that mandates a sort of diversity training for all federal employees.
Rather than doubling down on diversity of thought, Ocasio-Cortez is hoping to promote diversity solely based on an individual’s physical characteristics, such as race and gender.
