AOC: ICE Shouldn’t Target Illegal Aliens

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) visited Massachusetts last week, where she claimed the “current administration is using ICE to target folks that ideally should not be targeted.”

The week prior in Massachusetts, Newton District Court Judge Shelley M. Richmond Joseph and a court officer were charged with obstruction of justice for allegedly helping an illegal alien evade ICE agents last year.

"When it comes to ICE showing up in the courtroom, what we're seeing right now is a disturbing and consistent expansion of the way the current administration is using ICE to target folks that ideally should not be targeted," Ocasio-Cortez told reporters at an event in Brookline.

Two Massachusetts DAs filed a lawsuit to keep ICE agents out of state courthouses on Monday of last week. The same day, ICE officials arrested two illegal aliens with links to gangs in two Suffolk courthouses. Ocasio-Cortez says she supports the DA's lawsuit.

“Mounting the lawsuit is the right thing,”Ocasio-Cortez said. “The way that we’re going to resist the expansion of this administration is through local municipalities and through the exercising of state power as well, so I think it’s a fabulous development.”

ICE's website says, "Securing our nation's borders and safeguarding the integrity of our immigration system is a primary focus of ICE officers and agents throughout the country." One could assume "throughout the country" includes courthouses, but maybe that's just me.

The Boston Herald reports, AOC claims that people wouldn’t answer the door when she knocked in New York while she was campaigning  - because they were terrified of ICE.

“I would knock on the door and people would be really scared on the other side. They wouldn’t open,” Ocasio-Cortez said. “I realized that families were terrified of ICE.”

“They were scared because ICE doesn’t present themselves in a forthright way — they don’t knock on a door like, ‘Hey, we’re ICE,’” she continued.
