Freshman Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) has been on a crusade against ICE, the agency tasked with enforcing the immigration laws of the United States. While she hasn’t dropped that position yet, she now has a new agency in her sites which she hopes to abolish: The Department of Homeland Security.

When appearing on The New Yorker Radio Hour with David Remnick, AOC called the creation of DHS an “egregious mistake.”People sounded the alarm back then that these agencies are extra-judicial, that they lack effective oversight, and it is baked into the core, foundational structure of these agencies,” the New York Representative said.

"ICE is not under DOJ, it's under the Department of Homeland Security and so we have now —" Ocasio-Cortez continued before Reminick asked if she also wanted to abolish DHS.

"I think so. I think so,” she responded, “I think we need to undo a lot of the egregious mistakes that the Bush administration did.”
