Readers of Travel and Leisure magazine pegged citizens of the Sunshine State’s largest city as the being the rudest in the nation.
“They’re multilingual, beautiful, and wealthy,” said Florida-based travel blogger Christine Austin. “For regular folks, visiting here can feel like stumbling into a nightclub full of supermodels while you’re wearing yoga pants.”
While readers cited haughty locals as the primary reason for putting Miami at the top of its list, it might just be that the blazing heat and humidity are putting visitors in a bad mood.
“The kind of heat that makes you just want to blame someone,” Austin said.
Miami was followed on the list by Phoenix, New York City and Los Angeles.
It may surprise some that Salt Lake City was ranked as America’s sixth rudest city. This may be because Utah law limits the amount of alcohol in beer at just 3.2 percent. That’s simply not a high enough level to make you friendly to strangers.
