President Trump on Monday released his “America First” national security strategy.

In a speech in Washington, D.C., Trump described his strategy as “a major departure from the past and a fair one.”

“With every decision and every action, we are now putting America first,” he said. “We are rebuilding our nation, our confidence, and our standing in the world.”

“America is coming back and America is coming back strong,” said Trump.

He named China and Russia as major competitors “that seek to challenge American influence, values and wealth.”

Trump said that the U.S. will attempt to build “a great partnership” with them “but in a manner that protects our interests.”

He also called out "rogue nations" North Korea and Iran and promised to “keep peace through strength."

The President praised his administration’s handling of the North Korea threat, calling it a “campaign of maximum pressure” which has resulted in stricter sanctions on the regime and increased international cooperation.

His national security strategy involves enforcing border security with the construction of a wall, restricting immigration including ending chain migration and visa lottery programs, building up the military, confronting radical Islam and preventing its spread in the U.S., and building trade relationships that prioritize American interests.

“Economic security is national security,” Trump said.

As part of his strategy, he vowed to end what he called “trading abuse.”

In the 55-page strategy published by the White House ahead of his speech, Trump writes that his administration aims to prioritize Americans’ security, prosperity, and interests.

“We will promote a balance of power that favors the United States, our allies, and our partners. We will never lose sight of our values and their capacity to inspire, uplift, and renew. Most of all, we will serve the American people and uphold their right to a government that prioritizes their security, their prosperity, and their interests. This National Security Strategy puts America First,” his statement reads.
