Last week the nation experienced a terrifying attack where a lone gunman, James T. Hodgkinson, unloaded on several Republican congressmen and staffers during a practice for an upcoming baseball game. Hodgkinson was killed on scene by police, but investigators have uncovered some troubling new details about his intentions.

The shooting, which injured Majority Whip Steve Scalise, took place after Hodgkinson asked Florida Rep. Ron Desantis, “Are those Republicans or Democrats out there practicing?”

After the shooting ended and police were able to conduct an autopsy report, a list was recovered from Hodgkinson’s person. The list in question contained the names of Republican members of Congress as well as others as reported by The Daily Caller.

The list contained the names of Tennessee Rep. Scot Desjarlais, Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan, Virginia Rep. Morgan Griffith, Alabama Rep. Mo Brooks, South Carolina Rep. Jeff Duncan, and Arizona Rep. Trent Franks, which was confirmed by Fox News. Although it’s easy to speculate, a law enforcement source told CNN that it's not 100 percent clear that the list was an assassination list.

Franks confirmed that the FBI has been contacting congressman to inform them of their spots on the list, while on “The Story with Martha MacCallum.” Although Franks discussed the FBI’s involvement, the FBI Washington field office hasn’t provided no comment with regards to its ongoing investigation.

In addition to the note the FBI also seized a cell phone, computer, and a camera all housed in Hodgkinson’s vehicle. The items are being processed at the moment according to a statement released by the agency last Thursday.

This new evidence combined with Hodgkinson’s social media rhetoric against Republicans and conservatives will all be taken into account as the investigation progresses forward. Hodgkinson’s widow released a statement that she had “no idea” he was planning to carry out the attack and that he said he was headed to Washington D.C. to “work on taxes.”

More recently a stunning report came about concerning Hodgkinson’s alcoholism and affinity for afflicting abuse. Cathy Rainbolt, the grandniece and foster daughter of Hodgkinson, told a judge in 2006 that he and his wife hit her and noted that he consumed alcohol every day. She said, “I didn’t mark a time [Hodgkinson] started hitting me,” and ”It’s been hard to live with [an alcoholic] and how [he] treated me.”

Rainbolt had died young of a heroin overdose after years of physical and verbal abuse by Hodgkinson and sexual abuse from Michael Putnam, her biological father, and paternal grandfather.
