Attorney General Loretta Lynch “made an improper statement” as she was “looking for a dodge” regarding a legal statute that might incriminate Hillary Clinton, Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) charged in today’s House Judiciary Committee hearing.

Not only wouldn’t Lynch answer questions about her decision not to press charges against Clinton for mishandling classified emails – but, she wouldn’t even discuss the details of the law Clinton may have violated.

While Lynch refused to answer Gohmert’s questions on the grounds that she wouldn’t discuss details of her decision regarding the Clinton case, Gohmert repeatedly pointed out that he was simply asking her for clarification on the law, not the Clinton case.

After repeatedly failing to get Lynch to respond, Gohmert called her out for her “improper statement”:

Rep. Gohmert: “When Chairman Goodlatte (R-Va.) asked you about the statute and whether it includes the term gross negligence, you made an improper statement:

“You said discussion of the statute would require discussion of the facts. That’s not true. From my years of judging on the bench, your comment that discussion of the statute would require discussion of the facts when he asked you about an element that’s contained in the statute, Attorney General, that really sounds like an answer somebody would give who hadn’t read the statute and was looking for a dodge to avoid talking about a statute with which they’re not familiar.

“You are aware, and this doesn’t require any discussion of any facts whatsoever, you are aware that in 18 U.S.C 793(f), gross negligence is an element of the offense, are you not?”

AG Lynch: Congressman, I refer you to my statement you just commented on, with respect to…

Rep. Gohmert: Ok, well, if you’re not going to answer the question…

Rep. Gohmert closed his exchange with Lynch by pointing out that her answers suggest that she didn’t bother to review the FBI’s three hour interview with Hillary Clinton before coming to the conclusion she wouldn’t pursue charges against Clinton.

Before beginning his questioning of Lynch, Gohmert took moment to express “outrage” at his Democrat colleagues’ used the hearing to insinuate that Republicans do not care that five police officers had been killed in Dallas last week.
