Perhaps the Department of Justice won’t explicitly tell you to forget about the raid on Mar-a-Lago and Hunter Biden's crimes – but they won’t hesitate to shame you into doing so.

During a Friday press conference, a reporter asked Attorney General Merrick Garland about conservatives’ skepticism regarding the DOJ.

“Do the American people have cause to be concerned about the integrity of the components of this justice department,” she asked, “and what do you have to say about how they’re acting?”

Garland’s response? Everyone who questions the DOJ violently rebels against the heart of America.

“This constitutes an attack on an institution that is essential to American democracy and essential to the safety of the American people,” said Garland. “Nothing could be further from the truth.”

If Garland truly had nothing to hide, he could have chosen from many more charitable and reasonable responses. He could have acknowledged the DOJ’s many documented failures and then proved why they weren’t intentional. Even if he declined to point out his department's obvious political bias, he could have stopped short of blaming the American people's alleged disloyalty for their concerns.

As it is, though, the DOJ will scramble anywhere and everywhere to find a scapegoat other than itself. Thus, with an egregious lack of evidence, Garland pointed fingers.

This incredible lack of transparency proves yet again that the DOJ stopped putting the well-being of the American people first long ago. It is up to us, the very ones he accused of "attacking" democracy, to hold our own government accountable.
