ABC News Issues 'Correction' After Footage of Turkish Attack Turned Out To Be From 2017 Kentucky Gun Show

ABC issued a major “correction” to a video they aired on two of their biggest news shows purportedly showing Turkish attacks on Kurds after it turned out the clip was actually from a 2017 gun show.

The original clip, which ABC showed on both “World News Tonight" on Sunday and “Good Morning America” Monday morning, supposedly showed a Turkish attack in northern Syria. However, as it turns out, the footage may have been a two-year-old clip from a military weapons demonstration…in Kentucky.

After right-wing personalities pointed out the error, an article on Gizmodo compared the video shown on ABC and the gun show clip uploaded to YouTube, where it’s clear the two are the same.

The World News Tonight report, which began by accusing Trump of "effectively abandoning America's allies in the fight against ISIS," played the clip described as "appearing to show Turkey's military bombing Kurdish civilians in a Syrian border town."

And here’s footage of the machine gun demonstration at Knob Creek in 2017, showing the same scene in higher quality:

After getting called out for the flub, World News Tonight issued a “correction” on Twitter addressing the screw-up, writing: "CORRECTION: We’ve taken down video that aired on “World News Tonight" Sunday and “Good Morning America” this morning that appeared to be from the Syrian border immediately after questions were raised about its accuracy. ABC News regrets the error."
