An elderly Pennsylvania man shot and killed one of two intruders at his home early Friday morning, reports WPXI News.

Two men broke into the Ellport, Pa., home of 85-year-old Don Lutz at about 1:30 a.m., police said.

Lutz heard the commotion and got out of his bed, taking with him the gun under his pillow.

He said that when he was attacked by one of the intruders in the hallway, he fired one shot that went clear “through his chest,” fatally injuring the man.

“I ran into this guy in the dark. He grabbed me and I shot him and the bullet went through his chest, went clean through him,” said Lutz. “The other guy must have been behind him.”

“I just fired one,” he said. “It was in the dark. He attacked me and he was up close and I shot him. They jumped me and we both went on the floor. I scuffled with them on the floor and the one guy rolled over dead and the other guy, he jumped up and went out the door.”

Police are still searching for the second intruder. Authorities couldn’t find the bullet, which they said might have hit the man who ran off.

“The other one, maybe the bullet hit him, too. I don’t know. I hope so,” Lutz said.

The elderly man said that while he's a bit sore from the altercation, he has faith that God is watching over him, keeping him safe.

“I've never been afraid in my life,” Lutz said. “God has always been with me and I'm a hard believer in God and Jesus Christ.”
