An elderly Home Depot employee has died after being shoved to the ground by a shoplifter in the latest rash of violence from criminals who are getting far too brazen in their shoplifting game.

Gary Rasor, 83, can be seen on security camera footage from October 18 trying to stop the criminal from making off with three pressure cookers from the Hillsborough, North Carolina Home Depot. The thief, a 6-foot-tall dark-complected man wearing a black hoodie and a face mask, violently shoves Rasor to the ground before simply walking away with his cartful of stolen loot, leaving the old man lying on the store's concrete floor.

Rasor spent several weeks - and his 83rd birthday - in the hospital, where he and his wife talked about soon meeting their new grandchild. He was released home after several days, but couldn't walk and struggled to recover from multiple fractures. He was rushed back to the hospital the day before Thanksgiving, where he died from complications from his injuries.

Now, his shocked and confused widow, Yovone, is preparing to ring in the first Christmas without her husband.

“It’s just hard, and I know it sounds silly, but I’m still waiting for him to come back home,” Yovone told WNCN over the weekend.

“It’s just beyond our comprehension that someone would do this for a couple of power washers… that just is mind-boggling,” Rasor’s son, Jeff, added.

Police are still looking for the suspect, and the crime is now being investigated as a homicide.
