The 74-year-old man who gained media attention from walking the streets for miles a day searching for a donor to provide a kidney for his ailing wife has finally gotten what he was looking for.

Wayne Winters, or Farr West, Utah, had started a desperate search to find a suitable donor to provide a kidney for his ailing wife of 26 years, who was experiencing stage 5 kidney failure. This passed Sunday, Winters finally received what he was looking for.

Speaking with KSTU, Winters said "I was just so overwhelmed. I didn't know what to think," after getting a call from the hospital that said they'd found a donor who could give his wife a kidney.

Fortunately for the couple, they will now be able to spend more time together. Winters told Fox 13 "If she can have a good five years that would be awesome, we can have our life back."

Winters received hundreds of calls and messages from people looking to help in whatever way that they could after seeing him shuffle across Utah streets and sidewalks wearing a sign that read "Need Kidney A- 4 Wife" along with a number to contact him.

This story won't be limited to Winters' wife either. As he said in previous reports, Winters plans to continue helping ailing people obtain donors. "I will spend more of my days walking with my sign to see how many I can get," Winters said.

"Think about it we could start a kidney revolution, and that would be so great," he added.

If you would like to help Winters as he continues to try and assist others in their donor search, you may contact him at 801-675-0278. You may also visit the National Kidney Foundation for any other information on how to help.
