Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio) has announced that he is joining the race for office of president in 2016. Here are 5 little-known facts about his life. 

1. Kasich met President Nixon

When he was a freshman in college, he wrote a letter to President Nixon and requested a meeting with him. The letter made it to President Nixon who then met with Kasich for 20 minutes. (via)

 

2. He lost both of his parents in a car accident

In 1987, Kasich’s parents were killed by a drunk driver. After the loss of his parents, he found his faith again. (via)

 

3. Kasich is the youngest person to be elected to Ohio’s Senate

At the age of 26, in 1978, Kasich won his election, making him the youngest person to ever be elected to Ohio’s Senate. (via)

 

4. Kasich had his own TV show

 

 

After leaving Congress, he hosted Fox News’ “From the Heartland with John Kasich” until 2006. (via)

 

5. He does not use a Teleprompter
