Well, it was an extended holiday weekend — the last of the summer — so criminals in Chicago do what they usually do and try to set records when it comes to shooting people. Unfortunately, and one person getting shot is too many, a 4-year-old little boy was one of their victims this past weekend.

At least six people were killed and another 61 were wounded across the Chicagoland area over the extended Labor Day weekend. This is up, barely, compared to the previous weekend, which saw at least six people murdered and another 49 wounded in shootings.

Of the 61 people wounded, the Chicago Sun-Times is reporting that “eight children 17 and younger” were among them, including the 4-year-old boy.

Here are the names and ages of those who lost their lives over the weekend:

Mychal Moultry Jr., 4

Unidentified Male, 25

Unidentified Male, 50

Unidentified Male, Age Unknown

Enrique Negrete, 23

Unidentified Male, 41

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 223 people have been murdered and another 1,299 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, which keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, have apparently given up keeping track as they still haven’t updated their numbers in two months. But, they reported that — as of July 7 — 2,021 people have been shot in Chicago this year. That number is 164 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
