Another weekend has passed, and more nearly a couple dozen more people were shot in the city of Chicago. You would think a trend like that — which ironically has been remarkably consistent for decades now — would garner some kind of attention from those who were voted to be in charge of the city. Alas, you’d be wrong. Silence.

At least two people were killed and another 20 were wounded in shootings across the Chicagoland area over the weekend, according to CBS 2- Chicago. This past weekend’s violence is down slightly from the previous weekend, which saw at least six people murdered and another 21 wounded.

The Chicago Sun-Times reported that 51-year-old Matthew Harlan was shot and killed Sunday evening on the city’s South Side after being shot in the head while inside a vehicle.

The weekend’s other reported death, as reported in a separate article by CBS 2 - Chicago, was that of a yet-to-be identified male who was found shot to death inside an abandoned home after the local fire department found the man while responding to a call about a fire.

Among those wounded was an 11-year-old boy who was shot in the arm early Saturday evening. The boy was reportedly taken to the University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital and has been stabilized.

As for the year-to-date totals for Chicago weekend shootings, 44 people have been murdered and another 197 have been wounded in Chicago in 2021. The Chicago Tribune, who keeps a tracker of all shooting victims in Chicago, hasn’t updated their overall numbers since last week. The outlet is still reporting that — as of February 26 — 388 people have been shot this year. That number is 62 more than at the same point in 2020, which saw the second most shooting victims in the last 10 years of tracking data.
