New Hampshire Democrats Attack Republican Over Speech at Church

Here is a story I never really thought I would see but I can't say I'm terribly surprised by I suppose. A Republican lawmaker from New Hampshire, David Bates, recently visited a church in Massachusetts and delivered a speech. In the speech he tells the audience that we need to turn away from our wicked ways and back to God. He basically implores the country to look to God. He doesn't say anything terribly controversial that I can see. Here, see for yourself:

Now here is what the New Hampshire Democrats had to say about Rep David Bates's remarks:

Democratic spokeswoman Harrell Kirstien accused Republican State Rep. David Bates of attempting to impose a “Bible belt social agenda” after video surfaced of Bates saying “the only hope for America” is to “turn from our wicked ways and ask god to heal our land” and “the problem we have here in this country and in all of our states is that we no longer fear god” at New England Solemn Assembly in Plymouth Massachusetts.

I think its a bit overboard that the New Hampshire Democrats even issued a statement about an incredibly uncontroversial speech with incredibly normal christian themes. I also think the statement they released was way overboard. Believing and advocating traditional christian values doesn't make you some sort of extremist. This comes across as a slap in the face to Christians. Its disrespectful.
