Justice Breyer: Founding Fathers Were for Gun Control

Joe Schoffstall | December 13, 2010

Justice Breyer appeared on Fox News Sunday to discuss the Second Amendment with Chris Wallace and said the Founding Fathers would side with him because they have concluded James Madison was more worried the Constitution may not be ratified than he was about granting individuals the right to bear arms.

During a back-and-forth exchange, Breyer told Wallace if you're a sportsman and live in Washington, D.C, all you have to do is hop on the subway and go to Maryland. It should be noted gun control laws in D.C. are the strictest in the nation, and they have the highest homicide rates per 100,000 people. On the other hand, Utah- who has some of the least restrictive gun control laws in the US- has one of the lowest homicide rates in the nation per 100,000 people. Do you think it has anything to do with the fact that criminals would think twice about committing a crime if they knew there was a high probability their 'intended victim' could very well be armed, too?
