Here are a couple of interesting videos dealing with immigration, legal and otherwise. They come from a group called NumbersUSA which is for stopping illegal immigration and lowering the number of legal immigrants that can enter the country as well. They present some very compelling arguments. The first video is about our current immigration levels compared to traditional immigration levels:

The second video is about why increasing the amount of people immigrating into the country won't have any real impact on world poverty:

Some very interesting stuff in there to unpack. First off, I think the argument that raising immigration levels wont make any real positive impact on world poverty. The argument presented in the video is simply overwhelming.

The facts put forth in the other video are very interesting as well. The fact that our legal immigration levels have basically quadrupled since the 1960s is stunning. Factor in illegal immigration and that brings us to an 8 fold increase which is, at the very least, concerning.

Whether or not this leads to significant pressure, it obviously leads to some level of pressure, on poorer Americans is an interesting question. NumbersUSA certainly argues that the increased competition for jobs that ever higher levels of immigration produce is detrimental to many Americans. That is true to an extent but I still have questions about exactly how detrimental it is.

I'll have to look deeper into the numbers that NumbersUSA has on their site and make up my mind. That is something I think everybody should do.
