Debating gun control on PBS's To the Contrary back on May 13, 2000, shortly after the Million Mom March, conservative Linda Chavez pointed out that living in a rural area, the police could not arrive fast enough to adequately protect her from a potential murderer or rapist.

Host Bonnie Erbe retorted: "I would bet that you have a greater chance of being struck by lightning, Linda, than -- living where you live and at your age -- being raped. Sorry."
