While the current secession petitions going around are taken seriously by some and simultaneously mocked by others, there's no denying MSNBC's Lawrence O' Donnell held the same views when his candidate did not win an election.

On November 5, 2004, MSNBC's O' Donnell appeared on a panel hosted by the McLaughlin Group and said a "serious discussion on secession" would begin shortly after President Bush's re-election and last for 20 years.

This segment was filmed just three days after the 2004 Presidential Elections.

Secession talk begins 40 seconds in.
