The idea of an individual sacrificing for their country by serving in the military and possibly being injured or giving their life for our nation, makes a lot of Americans very proud and at times emotional.

However it is particularly atrocious when an individual fabricates a story about their service in order to elicit emotions or reap benefits from the perception of military heroics.

That appears to be exactly what Sgt. Timothy Michael Poe did when he performed on "America's Got Talent" on Tuesday night.

Poe told judges and the audience that he had jumped in front of a rocket propelled grenade in order to save his fellow soldiers and severely injured his throat while serving in Afghanistan in 2009.

He then sang a nice rendition of a Garth Brooks song that made everyone cry.

However, when officials with the Minnesota National Guard check on Poe's claim, the found no record of the incident or the soldiers purported injury, NBC did a fawning story on Poe. It will be interesting to see if they follow up with the truth now that the facts have been revealed.
